Shades of experience . . . and beyond

Shades of experience is the doorway to perception, a view into our own experience and how we experience the world from multiple perspectives. I am a philosopher by education and proclivity, but following the flow of life brought me to the world of flowmeters and measurement more than three decades ago. I founded a company, Flow Research, in 1998 and have, with all modesty, become somewhat of a legend of flow in my own right, writing 300+ research studies, 300+ articles, and four books.

Over the years I’ve thought of my work in flow measurement as an extension of my philosophy. Philosophy and flow grew to be inextricably linked. At the same time, I’ve never stopped pondering the questions I began exploring as a PhD candidate at The Rockefeller University in 1973 to 1975. I have developed a unifying principle and theory of knowledge for six key concepts: viewpoint pluralism, epistemology, the mind/body problem, Finite Point Geometry, flow measurement and the theory of flow, and shades of experience, On these pages I will be sharing my passions and what I have learned in the course of my life’s work.
